2013 Bill Stutt Stakes – Moonee Valley Race Preview

August 6th, 2013

The Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes is scheduled to run at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Saturday September 21, 2013.

The race is worth $220,000 in prize money and is run over a distance of 1,600 metres.

The 2013 Bill Stutt Stakes will take place under set weight conditions and is open to three-year-olds only.

Scheduled to run as part of Moir Stakes Day, the race shares its program with the Group 1 Moir Stakes, Group 3 JRA Cup and Group 3 Champagne Stakes.

Last year’s winner of the 2013 Bill Stutt Stakes was Pierro, who won the race by an incredible five lengths ahead of Massive Impact and Jimando.

Pierro went on to run in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas and finished second, making the 2013 Bill Stutt Stakes a great indicator of ability ahead of the Guineas.

The talented three-year-old, who has since been retired to stud, then went on to run third in the $3 million Cox Platein October.

Horses that run in the 2013 Bill Stutt Stakes have often come via such races as the Group 3 Run To The Rose or the Group 1 Golden Rose, which takes place two weeks earlier.

With Golden Slipper winning filly Overreach already favourite for the 2013 Golden Rose, it would be no surprise if the three-year-old continued her spring campaign in the 2013 Bill Stutt Stakes.
